We had a little hiccup in our clean up plans this past week when we got hit with a bit of Jonas. We ended up with about 4" of sleet, with a nice layer of freezing rain on top for good measure. Thankfully, we didn't lose power like many did in other parts of the state. It was too cold to be without heat. But between the storm and my working my last weekend at the job, we lost some valuable time to prep for the move.
Thankfully, we did manage to get the chicken coops all taken apart and delivered to our friends before the storm hit. I spent the bulk of the morning we got the storm, burning some junk stuff in the firepit. Today the ice is almost gone, and we are getting a little bit of drizzle. To say my driveway is a muddy mess, is an understatement. Hopefully it drains a bit before I have to bring the 12 foot moving truck to the house tomorrow.
We are doing the final packing and cleaning today, finishing up the little bit in the kitchen, and making one last dump run to get rid of some stuff. I am so tired I can hardly see straight, but I could not have possibly done all this without my son Tom. He has worked as hard as I have, to make sure we can get out of here on time Saturday. We have at least a 12hr drive ahead of us, minus pit stops for bathroom breaks and gas.
Our plans hit a little snag a few weeks ago, when I tried to rent a trailer to put on the back of my suv. Apparently, Uhaul no longer allows any of their trailers to be hauled by a Ford Explorer, due to the OLD rollover issue from 15 years ago. Even though the issue is now resolved, they got sued by someone, and so no trailer. This made me have to switch to a moving truck. So, instead of my daughter and I sharing driving, we are both going to be driving a vehicle. We will manage though, and my son will take turns riding with both of us on the trip home.
The plus to the moving truck instead of a trailer, is that I can take a few pieces of furniture and such home to NH, which I thought I wouldn't be able to.
I will post again once we get back up north and keep you updated on the process of finding a new homestead. We have one on our radar already, just have to line up financing and such.
I'm back to the moving chaos, have a great day!
